Warner Bros. Movie World
Warner Bros. Movie World is a movie studio theme park on the Gold Coast of Australia. The park is owned and operated by Village Roadshow Theme Parks and is part of the larger 154-hectare entertainment precinct. Warner Bros. Movie World is the only movie-related theme park in Australia. The park includes rides, movie attractions, shows, and restaurants.
It is one of the most visited places in Australia, with the number of annual tourists averaging 1.4 million.
History and Ownership
Warner Bros. Movie World was opened on 3 June 1991, the same day as Sea World. The park was originally owned by Time Warner Entertainment and Village Roadshow. Time Warner sold its share in the park to Village Roadshow in 1993.
Additions and Expansions
Warner Bros. Movie World has seen continuous expansion and improvement over the past three decades.
In 1992, the Looney Tunes Land opened, and three years later, in 1995, construction of a new park began adjacent to the existing Movie World. The new park was called Wet’n’Wild Water World and opened in December 1995. In 1996, Warner Bros. Studios (the movie studio) opened, followed by the Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster installation and its operationalisation in 2001.
In 2002, the Road Runner Rollercoaster opened and soon after, in 2003, construction of another new park began adjacent to Movie World and Wet’n’Wild. This unique park was called Sea World and was formally opened to the public in 2004. In 2006, the Superman Escape roller coaster was added to the existing rides; in 2010, the Arkham Asylum Ride was introduced.
Since 2010, the park has also seen the addition of several other rides and attractions such as the Green Lantern Coaster, Batwing Spaceshot, Justice League: Alien Invasion 3D, DC RivalsHyperCoaster, Doomsday Destroyer, and Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth.
In 2016, construction for a new park began adjacent to Movie World, Wet’n’Wild, and Sea World. This new park is called Village Roadshow Studios and has been a popular tourist attraction since 2019.
