Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the Gold Coast’s top tourist destinations, and for a good reason! The Sanctuary is home to a wide variety of Australian wildlife, including koalas, kangaroos, emus, and crocodiles.

History
The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary was founded in 1947 by Alex and Frank Griffiths, two passionate naturalists. Originally known as the Currumbin Bird Sanctuary, the Sanctuary was created to protect the dwindling population of rainbow lorikeets.
Over time, the Sanctuary has expanded and now covers 27 hectares of land. The focus has also shifted from birds to a variety of Australian wildlife.
Today, the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the Gold Coast’s most popular tourist destinations, attracting over 500,000 visitors each year!
Species At The Sanctuary
The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is home to over 1,500 animals from more than 200 different species. Some of the most popular animals include:
Koalas
These iconic Australian animals are a must-see at the Sanctuary! Guests can learn all about koalas through educational shows and presentations or even have a cuddle with one of these furry friends.
Kangaroos
The Sanctuary is home to several different species of kangaroo, including red kangaroos, grey kangaroos, and wallabies. Visitors can see these incredible animals up close during feedings and encounters.
Emus

Frogs
The Sanctuary is home to over 30 different frog species, including the iconic green tree frog. These amphibians can be found in a variety of habitats, from the rainforest to the wetlands.
Crocodiles
The Sanctuary is home to several saltwater crocodiles, which can be seen during educational presentations and feedings. These massive reptiles are sure to impress (and scare!)
